UAE residents can look forward to one more public holiday in 2025 as the country prepares to mark Eid Al Etihad, the national celebration also known as UAE National Day.
Residents will have two days off on Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3, to celebrate the UAE’s founding in 1971.
The official holiday may yet be moved by the Cabinet to create a longer weekend, even if these are the expected dates.
According to UAE law, public holidays may be moved to the start or end of a week when paired with a weekend, which could result in a longer vacation.
2025 UAE National Day holiday
Following UAE Flag Day on Monday, November 3, which begins the National Month campaign that runs until December 2, comes the countdown to Eid Al Etihad.
The campaign encourages pride in the UAE’s journey, honors the nation’s accomplishments and unity, and gives people and residents a platform to speak.
Holidays in the public and private sectors
UAE National Day commemorates the emirates’ official nationalization and the beginning of their federal union in 1971.
The official theme of the UAE’s National Day festivities is “Spirit of the Union.” It was motivated by the vision and leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founder president.
The United Arab Emirates was founded in 1971 when the rulers of six emirates decided to merge and establish a single nation. National Day was renamed Eid Al Etihad last year.
Upon establishment, the emirates were:
Dubai, Abu Dhabi
Ajman, Sharjah, Um Al Quwain, and Fujairah
Soon after, in early 1972, Ras Al Khaimah became a member of the federation.
Numerous patriotic and cultural events, including as flag displays and decorations, parades and processions, and cultural events and performances, are held during this period of national celebration.
